A new international partnership connecting global peace initiatives with education, civic engagement, culture, and local communities in Bulgaria

On 28 August 2026, the Board of the International Peace Bureau (IPB) formally approved the membership application of the Foundation “Transformation of Essence”, welcoming the Bulgarian organization into its international network.

The decision was officially confirmed in a welcome letter from Sean Conner, Executive Director of the International Peace Bureau, inviting the Foundation to participate actively in IPB initiatives, develop cooperation within its region, and share its activities and achievements with the wider international peace network.

This membership marks an important new stage in the international development of the Foundation “Transformation of Essence” and creates opportunities to connect our work in peace education, civic engagement, culture, philosophy, literature, sustainable development, and responsible leadership with one of the world’s oldest international peace organizations.

From Dialogue to Membership

Before the formal decision, representatives of the Foundation and the International Peace Bureau met online to learn more about each other’s work and explore opportunities for future cooperation.

During the meeting, we presented the Foundation’s philosophy, international and educational initiatives, experience working with local communities and civic networks in Bulgaria, and our capacity to bring international peace initiatives closer to people through education, culture, and community engagement.

Particular attention was given to a principle shared by both organizations: sustainable peace requires not only international political and civic action, but also education, critical thinking, dialogue, personal responsibility, and the active participation of communities.

Following the meeting, the Foundation’s application was submitted to the IPB Board and formally approved on 28 August 2026.

What Is the International Peace Bureau?

Founded in 1891, the International Peace Bureau is one of the world’s oldest international organizations dedicated to peace. In 1910, the organization was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for its work for peace and international cooperation.

For more than a century, IPB has worked to advance peace, disarmament, international cooperation, and the redirection of resources toward human needs and sustainable development.

Today, its international work includes areas such as Peace Education, Common Security, Peace and Climate Justice, and the Global Campaign on Military Spending (GCOMS).

Its guiding message, “Disarmament for Sustainable Development,” raises a fundamental global question: how can societies achieve a better balance between resources devoted to military expenditure and those invested in education, social development, climate resilience, human security, and peace?

What Does This Membership Mean for Bulgaria?

For the Foundation “Transformation of Essence,” membership is not simply international recognition.

It is a commitment to action.

One of our priorities will be to build a bridge between IPB’s international initiatives and Bulgarian civil society.

We will seek opportunities to involve schools and educational institutions, teachers and students, young people, civil society organizations, libraries, cultural institutions, and local communities in initiatives dedicated to peace, dialogue, non-violence, sustainable development, and civic responsibility.

The Foundation will promote relevant international campaigns and initiatives of the International Peace Bureau in Bulgaria and explore opportunities to organize national and local activities connected to these global efforts.

At the same time, membership creates a pathway in the opposite direction: initiatives, ideas, and good practices developed in Bulgaria can become visible within the wider international IPB network.

This two-way connection — from the world to Bulgaria and from Bulgaria to the world — is one of the most important opportunities we see in this new chapter.

Education as a Path to Sustainable Peace

One of the strongest areas of potential cooperation is peace education.

For us, peace education means more than teaching about wars, conflicts, or international institutions.

It means developing the capacity for dialogue, critical thinking, respect for human dignity, non-violent conflict resolution, civic responsibility, and an understanding of the profound interdependence between individuals, communities, societies, and nations.

This creates a natural point of convergence between the international work of IPB and the initiatives already being developed by the Foundation “Transformation of Essence.”

The Living Genesis: Peace Also Begins with the Individual

Membership in the International Peace Bureau also resonates deeply with the philosophy behind The Living Genesis Project.

At its heart is a simple but demanding idea: the future is not merely something that happens to us. It is continuously shaped through our decisions, relationships, knowledge, ideas, and actions.

The same is true of peace.

Peace cannot be achieved solely through international agreements and political decisions. But neither can it be achieved through individual transformation alone. We need both.

We need institutions, international cooperation, diplomacy, and civic action.

But we also need people capable of choosing dialogue over hatred, critical thought over manipulation, understanding over hostility, and responsibility over indifference.

This is where education, philosophy, literature, and culture can become genuine instruments of peace.

They help us understand experiences beyond our own, question inherited assumptions, develop empathy, and recognize that our choices affect not only our immediate environment but the wider human community.

From Membership to Action

In its official welcome letter, the International Peace Bureau invited the Foundation to become actively involved in its work, cooperate on initiatives in our region, share reports about our activities, and contribute to the broader international network.

We accept that invitation as a responsibility.

We will follow and promote relevant IPB initiatives, explore ways to bring them to Bulgarian communities, and continue developing educational, cultural, and civic projects capable of contributing to the wider international peace movement.

Because a global network has its greatest value when its ideas reach real people and real communities.

And when local ideas are given the opportunity to reach the world.

From Bulgaria to the World. From the World to Bulgaria.

For the Foundation “Transformation of Essence,” joining the International Peace Bureau represents a new stage in our development — an opportunity to become part of an international community with more than a century of history while contributing our own experience, initiatives, and philosophy.

Our purpose remains clear:

to transform knowledge into awareness, awareness into responsibility, and responsibility into action.

Because peace begins with an idea.

But it is built by people who choose to turn that idea into action.
